Franklin Police visiting several neighborhoods on National Night Out, August 2

Franklin Police Officers will be visiting neighborhoods across the city, Tuesday night, August 2, as part of the Country’s National Night Out, an annual community-building event that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.

Each of the neighborhoods that officers are visiting volunteered to host a meet & greet for neighbors and officers. There will be photo-ops and giveaways for kids. Residents from nearby neighborhoods are welcome and encouraged to stop by and meet officers at any of these locations.

The schedule for August 2 is full, but Franklin Police
Officers want to create community and connection all year around.

To see about having officers stop by a future neighborhood block party or HOA meeting, call Franklin Police Public Affairs at 615-550-6811.

Franklin Police training, tools, and commitment to keeping kids safe this school year

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We hear the concerns of our community, and understand them. That’s why FPD is training to protect some of our community’s biggest VIP’s: our kids.

Officers recently held several intensive training scenarios, which included the use of a new breaching tool, nicknamed by SWAT as “the key to the city.” It will open any door or window. Recent trainings included scenarios in school buildings, portable classrooms, even school busses. Franklin Police Officers are trained and committed to going in, to stop any threat, immediately & without hesitation.

As we gear up for back to school on Aug 5, we’ve got your kids’ safety in mind, and are committed to doing everything we can to protect them while they learn, and grow.

Franklin Police Law Enforcement Assistance Partnership helps keep cops cool, despite harsh summer heat

LEAP Board Members with Franklin Police Officers

To help Franklin Police Officers beat the summer heat, Franklin’s Law Enforcement Assistance Partnership (LEAP), purchased patrol officers a unique device called CoolCop. You see it being modeled, here.

Sgt. Eric Treanor modeling CoolCop

One end of the hose connects to an AC vent in the police car and the other goes inside the officer’s bullet-resistant vest, providing a blast of cold air to the officer’s torso, which normally gets no airflow because of the vest.

LEAP is a nonprofit organization that helps support Franklin Police Officers and their families. This most recent expression of LEAP’s appreciation for Franklin Police Officers was possible thanks to a generous $82,000 donation from May’s Jeff Carson Memorial Benefit Concert, following Officer Carson’s death, earlier this year. LEAP is especially thankful to Jeff’s family, friends, and management team for their thoughtful support, and love for the Franklin Police Department.

Update regarding an incident circulating on social media

The Department has an update for residents about an incident circulating on social media, which shows video of a man lifting a campaign sign out of the lawn of a private residence, ringing the doorbell, and then tossing the sign on the ground near the front door.

Working with neighbors, officers have identified the man in that video. After conferring with prosecutors, Criminal Trespass could be a potential charge. Criminal Trespass is a Class-C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of not more than $50.00, and a sentence of not more than 30-days in jail.

What happened here should not be the experience of anyone who chooses to support a candidate, and the Department is saddened that this occurred. The homeowner advised officers that they do not want to prosecute. The Department, however stands ready to assist them with pursuing criminal action, should they decide to do so. Absent an arrest and pending prosecution, it is not appropriate for the Department to publicly identify the man in the video.
