Real estate agent indicted on felony charges

A Williamson County Grand Jury has indicted a Franklin real estate agent on several charges. Michael Burchyett, 42, of Franklin, was charged with Theft over $250,000, Criminal Simulation, and Money Laundering. The indictments follow an in-depth investigation by Franklin Detectives after it was reported that Burchyett used forged closing documents to trick a client from China into thinking they had purchased a $495,000 Franklin home. Burchyett diverted the victim’s money for his own use and then sold the listing to someone else.

Burchyett is free on a $50,000 bond. He is due in criminal court on April 28.

Two Franklin Detectives honored at CPIT Picnic

The Child Protective Investigative Team (CPIT) is a multi-disciplinary group of people who work together to investigate child abuse. Organizations that make up this team include law enforcement, The Davis House, The Department of Children’s Services, Williamson County Juvenile Court, the District Attorney’s office, and Our Kids.

Two Franklin Police Detectives were honored for their work with the team, last night, at a CPIT Awards Picnic: Detective Sergio Guerra and Detective Becky Porter (Ret.).

Detective Guerra has committed the last seven years of his career to helping abused children and their families through some of the toughest times in their lives. His colleagues commend Det. Guerra for holding offenders highly accountable while helping victims and their families through the deliberate and painful recovery process.

Detective Porter worked for more than 30 years in law enforcement, dedicating 20 of those years to child abuse investigations. She’s left a lasting impact on both child abuse investigators and affected families in our community. Last night, the Child Protective Investigative Team announced the naming of their new conference room as the “Becky Porter Conference Room,” in recognition of Det. Porter’s service and legacy.

The Franklin Police Department recognizes the service and sacrifice of those who protect our community’s kids, especially the most recent honorees: Franklin Police Detectives Guerra and Porter.

Easter crash claims second life

Franklin Police are investigating after a 2-vehicle Easter afternoon crash at Murfreesboro Rd. and Royal Oaks Blvd. sent eight people to three different hospitals. A beloved Franklin couple, Ed and Charlotte House, died yesterday. The victims in the second vehicle, two adults and four children, were seriously hurt.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. House was traveling west on Murfreesboro Rd. when, for reasons unknown, he crashed into the rear end of the other vehicle while it was stopped for a red light, waiting to turn left onto Royal Oaks Blvd.

Mr. and Mrs. House were the parents of retired Franklin Fire Department Battalion Chief Eddie House, a 34-year member of the FFD. Chief House now serves as Deputy Chief for the Spring Hill Fire Department. Mr. House, 81, was a 20-year volunteer member of the Franklin Fire Department. Mrs. House, 77, served for 14 years in the City’s Finance Department, retiring in 2010.

Our entire city team is deeply saddened by the loss of Mr. and Mrs. House, and our prayers are with their family and the other victims who were involved in this terrible crash.
