Impaired I-65 hit-and-run driver facing multiple charges

An impaired driver who fled from a dinnertime crash on Tuesday is facing several charges, including DUI, Violation of the Implied Consent Law, Drug Possession, Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance, Leaving the Scene of a Crash, and Failure to Report a Crash.

Age: 40
Columbia, Tennessee

Shortly before 6:30 p.m., Officers were summoned to a hit & run crash on I-65 in Cool Springs. Officers located the fleeing driver, 40-year-old Donald Brewster, of Columbia, driving into a nearby parking lot after he exited the Interstate. His vehicle had heavy damage, including two flat tires. Officers determined that Brewster was impaired and arrested him. The driver of the car he slammed into from behind was shaken, but not noticeably injured.

Due in court on June 22, Donald Brewster is free on the $5,500 bond set by the Magistrate.

Flooded roads and rising water across Middle Tennessee follow overnight downpours

Anyone who sees rising water should report it to Dispatch so an officer can be dispatched to evaluate. Sometimes there is an easy remedy, like unclogging a storm drain that’s blocked with debris. Little things like that can make all the difference. So please, do not hesitate to call and report.

Because floodwaters rise and recede so quickly, it can be difficult to keep an accurately updated list of closures. The most recent information, however, can be found here:

Flooded roadways are often closed with cones or unmanned barricades. If you encounter either, there is danger ahead that could be more serious than you think. Please do not travel through or around those closures. Turn around and find an alternate route.

Crime Stoppers cash offered for ID of this puppy toting shoplifter

Franklin Police want to identify this white male suspect who stole a shopping cart full of items from Walmart at 3600 Mallory Lane on March 15th.  The suspect was holding a small grey puppy (possibly a pit-bull puppy) in his arms.  He left the parking lot in a burnt orange Chevrolet sedan (tag unknown) with a “T” on the back of the vehicle.

Franklin Police wishes everyone a Happy St. Patrick’s Day but please be safe and don’t drink and drive

An increased number of Franklin Police Officers will be hitting the streets tonight to help protect you through the St. Patrick’s Day holiday.  Officers are working overtime to focus on impaired, distracted, and dangerous drivers.  Alcohol will be served at many of the bars and celebration parties.  If you plan to drink, be sure that a designated driver is part of your plan as well.  Franklin Police want you to know, If you drive impaired – you will be arrested, you will go to jail.

NEW: Suspect video of Hardees robber released; Cash reward for info

Franklin Police and Crime Stoppers are offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information that helps to identify this March 9 robber who held up the Columbia Avenue Hardee’s.

The suspect was wearing two jackets and a baseball hat when he walked into the restaurant at 5:15 am, indicated that he had a gun, and demanded money. No one was injured during the robbery. The suspect can be seen in a nearby surveillance photo carrying a skateboard.

Franklin Police and Crime Stoppers are offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who can help identify this thief. On March 5 he used credit cards stolen from a shopper’s purse to purchase more than $2,500 in gift cards at the Cool Springs Target.

Crime Stoppers cash offered for ID of Walmart shoplifter

Franklin Police are working to identify a suspect who got away after he tried stealing almost $500 in merchandise from the Mallory Ln. Walmart, March 5. When security stopped him in the parking lot, the suspect abandoned the stolen merchandise and took off running. He left in a Nissan Versa. There is a cash reward if you know who he is.

WANTED: Leronte Burks; Cash reward for information

Franklin Police are seeking the whereabouts of 23-year-old Laronte Burks. He’s on the run after evading Franklin Police Officers attempting to arrest him on a felony warrant out of Giles County. Burks is now facing new charges in Franklin, including Felony Evading and Reckless Endangerment With a Deadly Weapon.

Burks is a convicted felon with a violent history who is currently out on probation. There is a cash reward for information on his whereabouts.
