Five arrested, loaded gun recovered after Franklin Police Officer interrupts in-progress auto burglaries

A Franklin Police Officer patrolling an apartment complex over the weekend interrupted a series of in-progress auto burglaries. It happened at 3:30 Saturday morning at Sussex Downs on Magnolia Drive. While checking the area the officer noticed someone running from the area. As that 17-year-old male was captured, several other suspects emerged and ran into a nearby cemetery. Officers quickly established a perimeter and called for a Sheriff’s Office K9, which was instrumental in capturing four additional suspects.

Officers determined that the suspects: 19, 18, two 17-year-olds, and a 16-year-old, all from Nashville, had burglarized seven unlocked vehicles. Among the items stolen were prescription medications, a large knife, clothing, and cash.

A loaded gun that the teens had stolen during another auto burglary was recovered from the car they were driving.

All five suspects were charged with multiple counts of Burglary, including 19-year-old Dion Cummings and 18-year-old Dejuan Buckley. They are both free on the $7,500 bond set by the Magistrate and are due in court on July 25.

Franklin Police continue urging residents to lock their car doors, especially when turning in for the evening, to keep from falling victim to this type of crime.
