At the request of 21st District Attorney General Kim Helper, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting that occurred Tuesday morning in Williamson County.
Preliminary information indicates the incident began around 9:30 a.m, when officers with the Franklin Police Department began pursuing a vehicle that had been reported stolen. After a period of time, the Franklin PD officers ceased their pursuit. Around 10:40 a.m., Deputies with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office spotted the vehicle near Lewisburg Pike. They initiated a pursuit that continued over the I-65 overpass at Peytonsville Road. The driver of the vehicle came to a stop on the overpass, got out of the vehicle, and brandished a weapon at the two deputies. One of the deputies fired, striking the driver. The driver was deceased at the scene. One of the deputies sustained a leg injury during the incident.
