A Franklin man who pulled a gun during a road rage incident, Friday, has been charged with Aggravated Assault. The victims, a Columbia couple, reported that they were traveling south on I-65 near Cool Springs Boulevard, at 9:30 Friday night, when a pickup truck began to tailgate. At one point, the driver of that pickup passed the couple and slammed on his brakes, bringing both vehicles to a stop in the middle of the Interstate. The suspect then threw an ashtray at the victim’s vehicle and sped away. The victims followed the suspect and called police. The suspect then used the right shoulder of the Interstate to drive parallel to the victims, at Interstate speeds. That is when the victims say 19-year-old Alex Oneal racked the slide of his semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at them. Speeds during this road rage incident reportedly reached 100 miles per hour.

Officers located Oneal in his pickup truck, behind the Murfreesboro Road Sonic, shortly after 10pm. Oneal was found in possession of the gun when officers ordered him from his truck. Oneal, charged with Aggravated Assault, is free on the $3,000 bond that was set by the Magistrate. He is due in court on 04/14/2016 at 1pm.

Irrational drivers who turn their aggression into a violent encounter in Franklin will not be tolerated. If convicted, Oneal faces up to six years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. If you are confronted with violence during a road rage encounter, the best way to protect yourself and your family is to lock your doors and drive away from the danger while calling 9-1-1.
