A warning to gym goers: Franklin Police investigating multiple smash & grab auto burglaries at local fitness centers

Franklin Police are investigating six Monday morning auto burglaries that occurred at two local fitness centers. In each case, victims reported parking their vehicle between Purse in Car II6:15 and 7am, only to find that they had been burglarized after returning from their morning workout. The locations impacted were Orange Theory Fitness at 3301 Aspen Grove Drive, and Prairie Life Fitness at 300 Shingle Way.

In five of the six cases, officers say that the victims left valuables in plain view. In each one of those cases, thieves broke out windows to get to the valuables they could see laying inside. In one case, the thieves entered an unlocked car and pushed the trunk release, stealing the victim’s briefcase and valuables from his trunk. Items like backpacks, purses, briefcases, and their contents were stolen. Combined losses are estimated at well over $5,000.

Thieves know that, in most cases, people visiting fitness centers, parks, and daycares often leave their briefcases and purses behind. Suspects are often in place and watching you arrive. When they see you get out and go in empty-handed, or see you stow valuables in your trunk and walk away, they quickly move in, and break in.

Franklin Police warn gym, park, and daycare patrons to be vigilant.
You should take valuables with you, and
avoid leaving them behind and visible
in your vehicle.
