Franklin Police Officer Clayton Cates has been named Officer of the Month for his work on August 8, 2015 that resulted in the arrest of a serial burglar.
Officer Cates, assigned to the Franklin Police Department’s Flex Team, coordinated the surveillance of a downtown business after the owner reported recurring incidents of missing money and jewelry, into the thousands. During the stakeout, Flex Team Officers arrested a store employee suspected of the repeated burglaries. That employee confessed to repeatedly burglarizing the store after-hours; he was subsequently arrested and charged with Burglary.
“Officer Cates was part of a team that came in on their day off to covertly watch this store,” said Chief Deborah Faulkner. “Officer Cates’ service-above-self approach with his community, crime victims, and his fellow officers makes a difference every day – it certainly did on this day.”
The Franklin Police Department is proud to partner with Franklin Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Ram, who awarded $150 to Officer Cates. Officer Cates, in turn, is donating the money to his favorite charity: The Tennessee Hemophilia and Bleeding Disorders Foundation.
Officer Cates has served on the Franklin Police Department since 2006. Franklin Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Ram General Manager Leo Linkov honored Officer Cates with a plaque today at Police Headquarters.
