A Nashville man, charged with his second DUI, is free on bond after a Saturday afternoon mishap that caught the car that he and his young child were in on fire.

Officers were dispatched to Mallory and Seaboard Lane at 3:30pm Saturday for a car fire. The driver, 31-year-old Nathan Boland, spun out, running his vehicle into the ditch. Boland’s attempts to free the car from the ditch by spinning the wheels created friction. That friction caught the brush, and eventually Boland’s vehicle, on fire.

Officers determined that Boland was impaired, and arrested him for DUI. Boland, charged with DUI – Second Offense, and Violation of the Implied Consent Law, is free on a $5,000 bond. He is due in court 02/19/2015 at 1:00pm.

In 2013, there were 6,928 known alcohol-related traffic crashes in Tennessee. Nationally, one in three traffic fatalities are a result of an alcohol-impaired driving crash.
