FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will close a short section of Interstate 65 and State Route 248 (Peytonsville Road/Goose Creek Bypass) in Franklin this weekend for bridge construction. During the closures, traffic will use the on- and off-ramps at SR 248. The work is scheduled as follows:
- Saturday, February 7, 6:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – I-65 southbound (only) and SR 248 bridge over I-65 will be closed.
- Sunday, February 8, 6:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – I-65 northbound (only) and SR 248 bridge over I-65 will be closed.
This operation will likely create lengthy delays for traffic on I-65. All traffic will be detoured off the interstate at Exit 61 and immediately back onto the interstate using the exit and entrance ramps. The bridge over the interstate will be closed to allow interstate traffic to maintain flow across the ramps. Although the ramps will be accessible, motorists are advised to plan ahead and utilize alternate routes if possible.
Message boards are in place to alert motorists to the road closures. The Tennessee Highway Patrol and TDOT HELP trucks will also be on-site to assist with traffic.
The scheduled closures are weather dependent. Should inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances prevent work from occurring as scheduled, the time will be adjusted or the work will be rescheduled.
The lane closures are necessary to set steel beams for Phase II of bridge construction. The work is part of a $46 million project that will modify the interchange, widen SR 248, and widen I-65 between SR 840 and SR 248 in Williamson County.
