Franklin Police are seeking information on the driver of a turquoise blue Ford Ranger pickup truck that evaded officers Sunday afternoon.
At 4:20pm, the truck was clocked traveling 70mph on Hillsboro Road near Christ Community Church. The speed limit in that area is 45. When the officer turned around to stop the reckless driver, he accelerated, and began dangerously switching lanes and passing other drivers who were traveling south.
The officer lost sight of the vehicle after it turned onto Claude Yates Drive, which connects Franklin High School, Columbia State Community College, and a busy park. Parents, who were in that park with their children, told officers that the truck sped through the area and down a park trail. Officers believe that the young white male driver left the area by speeding down that trail for pedestrians and bicycles, and into the Chestnut Bend Subdivision.
The driver’s actions were extremely dangerous, and there is a Crime Stoppers reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to his identification and arrest.
